The experience with the Sockeye Fire in Willow last summer was a good lesson for residents of the Susitna Valley in the need to be more prepared for a disaster in our homes and communities.
The upcoming Su Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair, to be held at the Willow Community Center at Mile 69.5 Parks Highway from 11:00 to 3:00 pm, on Saturday, May 14 invites all members of the community to receive vital information on disaster preparedness and other safety information.
The Fair is presented by Willow Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Mat Su Borough Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and AARP. It is modeled on the successful Mat Su Valley Emergency Preparedness and Safety Expo that has attracted crowds to the Mat Su College the past six years.
Over 20 exhibitors are committed so far, including DNR Firewise, Alaska State Parks, US Army, Civil Air Patrol, Willow Fire Department, Mat Su Borough, Red Cross, Public Health, State of Alaska Earthquake simulator and many more.
They will offer hands on, interactive exhibits inside and outside on Safety and Preparedness that will be of interest to children and adults. Be prepared for Nature’s surprises this year. Join us! Please write KL4A@arrl.net for more information.
